Ben paid us a visit in February 2010 to record one of his new tracks at premium quality, ready for Valentines Day.

Ben is a competent local singer songwriter with a keen following whose performances require little embelishment or studio trickery to improve.

In the studio, Ben is a joy to record. He is always well rehearsed, and clearly spends a lot of time and attention crafting and arranging his material, ensuring there are little details in his playing that keep the listener's attention between vocal lines.

We selected a few mics for the guitar and voice, and readied the room before Ben arrived. This meant that once levels were set, the track could be recorded quickly. We decided that we should approach the session like a live show, which, with a well rehearsed player, lends a level of reality to the recording.

The resulting track, which you can hear by clicking below, is actually one seamless take with Ben's guitar and vocals recorded together.

This approach really helps Ben's music to shine, providing a record which is sonically familiar, and allows him to stay close to the acoustic performances he gives when playing out live.
